Steven Hirschtick OBITUARY
Steven R. Hirschtick passed away on February 8, 2025 at age 78 at his home in Thailand following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Nonglak Orawan Khamtan, daughter Corie (Tony) Marsh, step-children “Sep”, “Fefe”, and “Ace”, sibs Susi Coaker, and Michael (the late Lani), Dan (Betsy Lindner), and Rob (Carol) Hirschtick. He is also survived by his lifelong friends Jim Ditkowsky and Alan Alop.
Raised in Lincolnwood, Steve attended the U of I in Urbana where he acquired the inaccurate moniker “Slothman”. He graduated from U of I Law School with highest honors in 1971. Steve moved to Los Angeles in 1975 with his first wife (the late Eileen, nee Elster) and daughter Corie and started a successful law firm while also teaching tax law at Loyola Marymount University Law School.
Succumbing to the incessant beating of a different drum, Steve retired in 1997 and moved with Orawan to her native Thailand. He carried his love of the Cubs with him and built a replica of the Wrigley Field scoreboard in his front yard, much to the confusion of his Thai neighbors. Steve and his scoreboard were featured in Sports Illustrated. Throughout his years in Thailand, he described himself as “the happiest person on the planet”.
Steve was intelligent, caring, and opinionated. He had a highly developed (some would say warped) sense of humor. Always provocative, he could be edgy and did not suffer fools. He was the most unique individual any of us ever knew. His passing leaves the world a less interesting place.
A memorial service was held in Steve and Orawan’s home village of Pa-Muaed, Thailand on February 12, 2025.
