Where's Marshal Matt Dillon when we need him?
He stood against gun violence, racism, sexism...
We need the moral voice of "Gunsmoke" - a western (no less) which aired on radio and TV back in the 50s, 60s, & 70s.
In 2021 we're regressing to Jim Crow.

Masks are NOT political theater.
Rand Paul continues to politicize masks.
He takes every opportunity to spar with Dr Fauci.

When's the tipping point to break party lines and pass gun legislation?

Here we go again, flaunting our devotion to the weapons that take Americans' lives and create a lifetime of carnage.

When is enough enough?
When will Americans demand that Congress address gun violence in the US?
Are members of Congress totally ineffective problem solvers?
Other countries find solutions to problems.
Why does Congress just kick the can down the road?

How effectively has the US dealt with the pandemic?

Are we incapable of governing ourselves?

McConnell's spinning himself into a frenzy afraid to lose the filibuster and his power to grind the Senate into eternal gridlock, grounding the Senate and democracy.

Mitt Romney has been selected to receive the JFK 'profile in courage' award, for demonstrating "politically courageous leadership."
"Senator Romney reminds us that our Democracy depends on the courage, conscience, and character of our elected officials."
Mitt Romney (the first US Senator to vote to convict a president of his own party on an impeachment charge) was the only Republican Senator to vote to impeach Trump in February 2020 on a charge of abusing his power to press Ukraine to investigate now-President Biden and his son Hunter's dealings in Ukraine.
Romney then voted with six other Republican Senators in February 2021 to impeach Trump for his role in the January 6 mob attack at the Capitol.
Senator Romney invoked his father, who he said "did what was right regardless of consequence."

Can we agree that gutting the Voting Rights Act was a terrible decision?

Why not use COVID-19 Vaccination Record Cards as IDs for voting?

Caution: Texas Rangers totally disregard COVID-19 and had no attendance restrictions at their 2021 home opener yesterday. 38,238 fans packed the stands and set a new pandemic-era attendance record.
The rest of the league is limiting attendance at games.

Our democracy is broken: we careen from crisis to crisis.

"The American flag should remain at half mast 'til Congress acts on gun violence."

"I wish Americans would stop pretending to be 'shocked' by the country's unrelenting processsion of mass shootings. You can't be 'shocked' when something keeps happening that you do nothing to stop.
Just admit you don't care enough to act, because you love guns too much."
-- Piers Morgan

Can we even recount the recent mass shootings in South Carolina, California, Colorado,  Maryland, and Georgia?

As always, American social media users push back about 'loving freedom' and a 'gun grab'.
Gun violence is a 'public health crisis' in the US.

Banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines would not infringe on personal freedoms or in any way impinge on the Second Amendment.

It is a national embarrassment that we refuse to reckon with gun violence.

It's (past) time for the US Senate to get to work and approve gun legislation the House passed in March.

"England is a cup of tea,
France, a wheel of ripened brie,
Greece, a short, squat olive tree,
America is a gun.

"Brazil is football on sand,
Argentina, Maradona's hand,
Germany, an oompah band,
America is a gun.

"Holland is a wooden shoe,
Hungary, a goulash stew,
Australia, a kangaroo,
America is a gun.

"Japan is a thermal spring,
Scotland is a highland fling.
Oh, better to be anything
than America as a gun."

Brian Bilston
