I'm not sure why I called you Marcy when your name was Marcia. However, we were friends in fourth grade and you were one of those very nice girls from Lincolnwood.  The one thing I do remember about you was your smile, your high energy, and your passion. You liked school, reading, writing and math.  You followed all the rules and never gave anyone a problem.  You were quiet and shy and was always afraid of getting in trouble....that's why we did not remain good friends by junior high.  Not to mention you called me Donna half the time.

on December 19 2002, Marcy Keno, lost her battle with pancreatic cancer. She was very brave and fought to the end. She was survived by her parents, brothers, and tons of family. She had never married or had children. In addition to her family, she left behind many coworkers at the Chicago Tribune.  Marcy had worked as a marketing manager for 16 years.

Marcy/ Marcia always loved to write.  She would write stories and poems. She also like French club and theater. These passions helped with her decision to go to Drake and get a degree in journalism.

Marcy, passionate, strong will, determination, smiling face, and high energy will miss you at our 50 th reunion.  It's a shame you dumped me in junior high.

Her mother named her Marcia and called her Marcy so that when Marcy was older she could decide to pronounce it "marsha" or "marceeah." We were friends in eighth grade.

I went to Drake also my first year, and Marcy and I became part of a looney foursome there: tall, blond, gorgeous Donna from Evanston, wacky Mary Jane Gooch from Long Island, sane, rational, grounded Marcy, and me -- just happy to be away from home.  Well by the end of that freshman year, Donna got pregnant and married (in that order), and I transferred to Madison (why didn't we ever call that school the "University of Wisdonsin"?)  And Marcy stayed at Drake.  Gooch (Marcy's roommate) stayed another year, and Marcy and I lost contact.

She was one you could count on.  I did a few very stupid things myself that year, and Donna and Gooch had their own demons,  but we all looked to Marcy for good advice (which none of us took).

I remember her fondly.

I sat behind Marcia in English Literature, Mrs. Rice teacher, and boy was she intimidating, Marcy and I would share our fear of her and laugh, she made you feel so accepted , it was easy to open up to her, which was not easy for me. Funny when annoucement of reunion came to my attention, she was one of the people that came to my mind. I feel her loss.

I always liked Marcy.  I trusted and appreciated her friendship and perspective, I enjoyed her laugh and sense of camaraderie.  Though I don't remember the two of us getting together outside of school informally, I enjoyed being with her at 'sweet sixteens' and looked forward to seeing her every day in French class.  Her photo captured her essence and good memories abound.

Special thanks to you, Lee, for honoring Marcia with a gift in her memory.  She will be with us in spirit as we celebrate our 50th reunion.  She lives in my memory, a steadfast and good friend.  She is "a part of us" forever.  "We remember" her and commend her "Into the Arms of Time".
