Sharry Rugendorf (Falcon)

Larry was this nice average Lincolnwood boy who was very shy and quiet. If you were a girl, you probably would not have noticed him.  He was just the average Jewish boy with a few friends that just enjoyed life. However. Average Larry became a very successful Chicagoland figure.  Everyone in Chicago knew Larry as a man who got thing done. The only things about Larry that didn't change was his beautiful eyes and his big smile,

After graduating from Niles, Larry went to Northern Illinois.  Freshman year Larry dropped out of Northern, due to a major illness.  Larry had several surgeries.at the University of Chicago.  Larry promised himself and the hospital, that one day he would be rich and donate money for research. All Larry wanted to do was give back and share his good fortune. Larry and his wife Lynda did just that.

Larry did recover. He went back to Northern and got his masters in something.  After receiving his masters, Ronnie Schiller (Lincolnwood friend class of 64) talked Larry into working at the Board Of Trade.  I think Larry made his money in beans or hay or chocolate. Im not sure how Larry made is money and im sure you dont care.  Just know he had enough to invest in the White Soxs.

in the early 70s Larry met this cute SDT  from Illinois.  Her name is Lynda.  They married, had 3 kids, Lisa, Brad, and Ben. They moved to Northbrook and bought a dog.  At that time Larry made good on his promise to the University of  Chicago Hospital. Larry became President of the Gastroentional Research Foundation and stayed a member until the day he died.

Besides being a part owner of the Chicago White Sox and many other businesses, Larry loved his wife. Larry and Lyndas life together is something everyone wants but just can't get there.

Larry leaves behind, Lynda, 3 children, grand children, the White Soxs, and his vegetable garden.  Larry has been dead for 3.5 years and is missed by many.  As I told his wife lynda, he was one lucky man.  He had love, money, children, and the best tomatoes in Highland Park.

Larry we miss you.

Lynda Nadick (Pogofsky)

(I am Larry Pogofsky’s wife, Lynda.  I was asked to write about Larry’s adult life(after high school)….however, there was little I could edit because to me everything he did was important.)

Larry was a special man and accomplished many things in his lifetime which he shared with all.

After he graduated from Niles West, he went to Northern Illinois University.  (He developed Chrons disease at the beginning of his freshman year and had to leave school to be hospitalized

at The University of Chicago where he had several surgeries. During this hospital time,          Larry contemplated  and decided that if he lived ,he would do certain things in his life .  One of which was to help The G.I .Section of the University of Chicago promote research.  He kept this promise by becoming the youngest President of The Gastrointestinal Research Foundation for two years and remained on The Board of Directions for the remainder of his life. He met with and mentored young people who were in the hospital and recently released. He helped raise money to fund research and donated a patient waiting room at The Bernard Mitchell Hospital at The University of Chicago.)

Larry returned to Northern Il where he received a Business Degree in Finance and an MBA; while at the same time being a member of Phi Epsilon and Social Chairman and Carnival King.....at the same time starting to sell stocks in companies.

Upon graduation, Larry decided to try working at The Chicago Board of Trade and was able to take a  loan for a membership seat from a fellow Niles West friend, Ron Schiller .At that time he was working 2 additional jobs to make ends meet and owed the whole price of the seat.

In December of 1972, Larry and I were married.  We had three children: Lisa (1974) Bradley (1976) and Benjamin (1979)

Larry's business life is history.  He developed his own niche at The Board of Trade ,where is was a well know Soy Bean TRADER, who had a unique method "to spread" his trades by buying and selling two different soy bean options at the same time. This formula which factored in the weather and THE FARMERS ALMANAC LIMITED HIS RISK.  LARRY TRADED EVEYDAY HE COULD INCLUDING THE NIGHT HE PASSED AWAY.  OUR SON HAD TO CLOSE OUT HIS TRADE.....BUT HE made money on it.

Larry was an avid White Sox Fan.  When he heard the team was being sold in 1978 he wanted to be part of it.  He did not know Jerry Reinsdorf but he called 411 and found his number.  Two days later Larry presented the deal to investors he knew and raised enough money to ensure a position for himself on The Board of Directors.  He was instrumental in the building of the new Stadium and attended most all-star and world series games from this time forward.  Larry was on the field when The Chicago White Sox won the WORLD SERIES.  HE HELD THE TROPHY AND HAD A SPECIAL MOMENT.

LARRY GREW TOMATOES, COLLECTED SPORTS MEMORBILIA, SHOT A POTATO GUN AND JUST HAD FUN IN LIFE. He was a wonderful husband, father, and friend.

LARRY HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE A GRANDFATHER WHICH WAS A ROLE HE ADORED.  He was “popup” and sat his grandson on his lap to start trading soy beans. THERE WAS NOTHING HE WOULD'T DO FOR HIS GRANDCHILDREN, JOSH AND LEXIE SOBELMAN

SO, LARRY LEFT MUCH TO THIS WORLD.  HE Left ME(LYNDA), HIS WINDOW, HIS DAUGHTER, LISA AND SON-IN-LAW DANIEL SOBELMAN, HIS SON BRAD POGOFSKY AND SON, BEN POGOFSKY

HE LEFT MANY FRIENDS WHO MISS HIM AND HIS EXCIEMENT AND SMILE IN THEIR LIFES.

Our Children and grandchildren are his most important legacy….and should you have the opportunity to meet them you will see Larry in who they are.
