Dover, De.-- Ronald "Ronnie" Garrett, 58, of Dover, died after a long illness Friday March 5, 2010, in Silver Lake Nursing Home, Dover.

Mr. Garrett was the son of the late Roland and Kay Garrett.

He was a 1969 graduate of Smyrna High School, where he enjoyed playing sports including varsity football, track and baseball.

After graduation, Mr. Garrett attended Delaware State College for one year before accepting an apprentice position as a mason.  He became a highly skilled mason and worked for several area masonry contractors throughout his 34-year career including Edward J. Wilkinson, for whom he worked until 2005.

He took great pride in his work and supervised many major projects including the Anna P. Mote Elementary School, Astra Zeneca and Hotel DuPont in Wilmington.

Mr. Garrett was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan and enjoyed visiting the Connie Mac and Veterans stadiums to see live games.  He was passionate about music and played guitar throughout his life.

He was a devoted volunteer coach for both of his sons' Little League teams. 

He will be missed by many loving family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Sue, who died in 2006.

Mr. Garrett is survived by his two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael and Leanne Garrett of Milford and Matthew Garrett of Dover; two grandsons, Tyler and Hayden; and a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth "Susie" and Todd Allman of Chadds Ford, PA.

Funeral arrangements are by Torbert Funeral Chapels, Dover.  The Memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 13 at 2:00 pm. at the Torbert Funeral Chapel in Dover, DE.  Friends may call one hour earlier at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Garrett's name may be made to Autism Delaware, 924 Old Harmony Road, Suite 201 Newark, DE. 19713.
