Philip Michael Collier, of Smyrna, died on Friday June 11, 2004, after a long illness. He was 38.
During his school years, he received the Billy Mitchell Award given by the Civil Air Patrol for outstanding leadership abilities. In addition, he was honored with the David Livingston Award from Smyrna Wesleyan Church.
He was a 1984 graduate of Smyrna High School, and also a member of the first graduating class of the Kent Vocational and Technical School in 1984.
He was an Army veteran of the Persian Gulf War, and served for a total of seven years with the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged.
Philip was employed by DelDOT for the last three years as an equipment operator. He was chosen to take part in a cooperative effort with several state agencies in the Newport Marsh Reconstruction Project.
He was a member of Smyrna Wesleyan Church, the VFW, and the American Legion.
Philip enjoyed hunting, canoeing, camping, and especially spending time with his children.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, M. Ernestine Archer; his paternal-grandparents, Frank L. and Louise Collier; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bonnie and Andrew Elardi; and his uncle, Kenneth Foster.
He is survived by his wife of seven and a half years, Arlene E.; a son, Alek; and a daughter, Martie; all of Smyrna; his father and mother, Larry and Joyce Collier, of Smyrna; a brother and his wife, Mark and Michelle Collier, of Magnolia; his maternal grandfather, Benjamin Archer, of Smyrna; a sister-in-law, Darlene Herritt, of Trevose, Pa.; his father-in-law; Arlan “James” Zettlemoyer; three nephews, Bobby and Nicky Herritt, and Nicholas Collier; a niece, Piper Collier; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.
