Obituary

Michael D. Tavares, 69, of Dighton, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at Charlton Memorial Hospital, in Fall River, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of twenty-nine years to Deborah (Sadler) Tavares.

Michael was born in Fall River, the son of the late Daniel and Emma(Franco-Mendonca) Tavares. He was a graduate of Somerset High School class of 1968. Michael began working for the family business Tavares ARCO on County Street in Somerset. Mr. Tavares then worked for Somerset Marine and then for the Providence Steamship Authority, retiring several years ago.

Michael enjoyed repairing and selling boats. He owned many pleasure boats and enjoyed fixing just about anything that needed fixing. Michael also enjoyed his family and being on the water.

Survivors besides his wife are three sons: Michael Tavares of Dighton; Christopher Tavares of Jacksonville, FL; Bryan M. Tavares and his wife Brienn of Portland, ME; a sister: Jo Ann Rapoza and her husband Joseph of Swansea; a brother: Lawrence Tavares and his wife Carole of Jacksonville, FL: along with several nieces and nephews.
