Shirley F. Blumberg, 87, of Laguna Niguel, Calif., formerly of New Brunswick, died Jan. 25, 2011. She was born in and raised her family in New Brunswick before retiring to Newport Beach, Calif., in 1987.

Mrs. Blumberg taught school in Franklin Township for over 20 years.

She graduated from New Brunswick High School. She attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison for two years before transferring to New York University, where she received a degree in English.

She was a member of Hadassah, the Franklin Township Teachers Association, the New Jersey Education Association, and the National Education Association.

Predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Edward C., she is survived by her son, Andrew M. of Aliso Viejo, Calif.; her daughter, Joanne R. Blumberg of Somerset; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements were handled by Selover Funeral Home, North Brunswick; a memorial service will be set for a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Alzheimer’s Association.
