Melvin E. Hooper, 65, of Middletown, NJ went home to meet his Lord on January 12, 2017 at Riverview Hospital with his wife at his side.
Mel was born in Columbus, Mississippi on July 11, 1950. For most of his life he was a resident of Somerset, NJ where he graduated from Franklin High School. He went on to graduate from Wagner College in Staten Island, NY. Mel was all about the music. He was proficient on the trumpet and played with his high school band and then with many musical venues in his college years. Mel never let a moment go by that he didn't hear something else in a musical number…he heard things no one else would hear.
Mel worked for Amerada Hess Corp for twenty years as their customs broker. At the time of his death he was the CEO of Technol Fuel Conditioners working as their consultant. Mel was a member of the Middletown United Methodist Church where he volunteered as financial secretary, web master and editor of the church newsletter.
Mel was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Mary Frances, his brothers Sam and Gary. He leaves behind his wife of 33 years, Carolyn, his sister, Marilyn and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 1:00 at the Middletown United Methodist Church, 924 Middletown-Lincroft Road, Middletown, NJ, 732-671-0707. Following the service a reception will be held in the church's fellowship hall.
