Roy Svendsen

AGE: 47 • Somerset

Roy Svendsen, 47, left us to be with his Savior Jesus on Sunday, April 22, 2012, after a brief illness. Roy was born in Princeton and grew up in Griggstown. He played basketball and graduated from Trenton State College with a degree in Computer Science. Roy was self-employed as a Project Manager within the pharmaceutical industry. Although Roy's life was brief and his illness quick, Roy touched many lives with an infectious joy for life and unfailing commitment to follow Jesus, regardless of his circumstances. He was an active member of Zarephath Christian Church and lived his life of faith, in everything he did, seven days a week. He was a strong leader and mentor, a faithful husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. For many years Roy was a loved and respected coach to young men on Little League baseball teams as well as travel and AAU basketball teams. He enjoyed competition and was regularly rallying friends and family for ping pong round robins, tennis, snow skiing and snowboarding, basketball and any other available sport. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. And now the prize awaits me - the crown of righteousness…" 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Roy was predeceased by his father, Ernest Svendsen. He is survived by his wife of nearly 25 years, Teressa Cruver Svendsen; his sons, Bjorn, Kristian and SvenAren; his mother, Harriet Sandvik Svendsen of Griggstown; his brother, Lloyd Svendsen; his sisters, Anita Svendsen, Lisa Manley and Sharon Robicheau; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 26, from 5:00-9:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 27, at 1:00 pm at the gymnasium of Zarephath Christian Church at 1 Chapel Drive, Zarephath, NJ 08890. In lieu of flowers, you may consider a gift to the family. Funeral arrangements are by Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, Bound Brook (732)356-0327.
