NOJ Members & Friends,

I just wanted to mention that I participated in this morning's AT&T Cares events in memory of our member, Risa Johnson. I had a wonderful time reading to three kindergarten students. They were all such sweet children.

We then went outside and planted a tree in memory of Risa. Included was a plaque with today's date. I was at the Jefferson Elementary school. However, this event took place at eight or nine schools in Plainfield. I can't get over what a great experience this was for me. I feel like even in her passing, Risa is keeping me in touch with what is important. She has touched many people.

I'm sure when Greg returns from his trip he will fill us in on any final details of the event. What I do know is that those of us who participated should report our AT&T Cares hours ourselves. There were nearly 250 listed to participate today!

Happy Holidays to All,

Kim

NOJ members,

I second Kim's comments. I was the team leader at the Clinton school. While I didn't get to read to the children, I did have a chance to interact with the children, teachers, volunteers and school administration. We had a great time with the children (I took pictures to prove it), and we were even able to let each child shovel some dirt on the tree so they all had a chance to help 'plant' the tree. Everyone expressed what a great time they had and the positive feeling the project left with the children. The most wonderful thing for me was seeing how sweet, polite and positive all the children were – I hope this project was able to reinforce these attitudes. They are, after all, our future.

I'd like to thank the Pioneers for including LEAGUE members in this activity. I know Risa would be happy that we all worked together on this project. And thanks to all the LEAGUE members who participated yesterday (or assisted in the organization of the project).
