Shirley L. Harris

Mrs. Shirley L. Harris, age 68, passed away on Thursday, June 7 in the morning at Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Mrs. Harris was born in Columbia, SC and moved to East Orange at an early age. She later relocated to Somerset section of Franklin Township in 1975. Mrs. Harris was employed by Prudential Life Insurance, The East Orange Housing Authority, Digital Equipment Corporation and Sony. Mrs. Harris was a graduate of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. She was currently employed by the Franklin Township Board of Education where she worked at Franklin High School for the past 13 years. Mrs. Harris was an active member of First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens where she was part of the Visitation Ministry. She enjoyed bowling and working with the youth of Franklin Township Pop Warner Football & Cheerleading program.

She is survived by her husband, Mr. Dennis T. Harris of Somerset and her children, Deron Harris (Kim) of Burlington and Cheryl Wallace (Clarence) of Somerset. She is also survived by her brother, Darryl Graves of Columbia, SC; sister, Wanda Graves also of Columbia SC; Aunt Emma Fox-Hill of Columbia, SC; her eight grandchildren, Dennis J.T., Caylia, Cam'Ron, Cydney, Dominique, Christopher, Brianna and Temeka; her great grandchildren, Brooklynn and Presleigh; her God daughter, Dawn Stewart-Harris (Jason) of Montclair and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

A funeral service will take place on Thursday, June 14 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick. Friends and family may visit from 9-11 a.m. at church. Arrangements are under the direction of Gleason Funeral Home 1360 Hamilton Street in Somerset. Contributions in Mrs. Harris' name may be made to the Cancer Institute of New Jersey in New Brunswick, NJ.
