Thomas Jackson (Jack) Elliott

U.S. Veteran ABBEVILLE…Thomas Jackson (Jack) Elliott, a resident of Abbeville, died Friday afternoon, February 1, 2013, in a Dothan hospital. He was 93.

Graveside services will be at a later date in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, North Carolina. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Henry County Veterans’ Memorial Park, c/o Elaine Kennedy, P.O. Box 115, Shorterville, AL 36373.

Mr. Elliott, a native of Abbeville, was the son of the late Bascom E. Elliott and Lollie O. Howerton Elliott. He was a graduate of Abbeville High School and attended Holmes Junior College in Mississippi. Mr. Elliott served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his military service, he graduated from Rutgers University in New Jersey where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He was a retired high school history teacher in New Jersey and had lived in Mexico, Asheville, North Carolina, and Eufaula, before returning to Abbeville in 2006. Mr. Elliott was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Rose Elliott; his step-mother, Cassie Griffin Elliott; and a brother, J.D. Elliott.

Surviving relatives include a sister, Ruth Hayes, Nashville, TN; a brother, Lowell Elliott and wife, Dean, Carrollton, GA; nieces and nephews, Joan Trawick and husband, Wayne, Dr. Andrea Hayes, Darby Koteff and husband, Walt, Matt Hayes and wife, Allison, and Shreve Elliott and wife, Cathy.
