Barry Franzyshen Obituary

Born in Somerville in 1955, lifelong Franklin Township resident Mr. Barry Franzyshen passed away Thursday July 23rd, 2015 at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune. His loving family was by his side. Mr. Franzyshen had retired two years ago after 36 years teaching Social Studies at Bound Brook High School, where he also coached football and track. A devout Catholic and long-time parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy in South Bound Brook, Barry was devoted to his family, community, and to serving others. A class of 1977 Rutgers alumnae, he was for 40 years a member, and for the last 8 years trustee of the Alpha Rho of Chi Psi Fraternity. Barry also received his Master's degree at his beloved Rutgers University in 1983. Mr. Franzyshen coached S. Bound Brook Little League and C.Y.O. Basketball for many years and had an unmeasurable love for history especially the Civil War. He was also an active member of the Friends of Abraham Staats House (FASH). 

Mr. Franzyshen was predeceased by his parents, Vera (2004) and Stanley (2014) Franzyshen. 

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Dayle Franzyshen; their daughter, Kristin Petrosini and her husband Christopher of Somerville; their son Mark Franzyshen, his wife Megan, and their son Joseph Stanley of Bethlehem, PA; their son Brian Franzyshen and his wife Courtney of Kendall Park; by his sister Dr. Maryann Jacks and her husband Rick of Rockland, ME; his sister Diane Rini, her husband John, and their sons Christopher, David, Steven, and Danny of Readington, NJ; and by his brother Michael Franzyshen, his wife Priscilla, and their son Matthew of Franklin Twp. 

Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-9 pm today at the Gleason Funeral Home 1360 Hamilton St. Somerset, NJ 08873. The funeral mass will begin at 10:00 am Tuesday at Our Lady of Mercy Church in South Bound Brook. Entombment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Abraham Staats House 17 Von Steuben Ln, South Bound Brook, NJ 08880.
