MARGARET S. PIEDEM
AGE: 88 FORMERLY OF MANVILLE
 Margaret S. Piedem, 88, of Cranbury, formerly of Manville, Statistician, Teacher, Beloved Mother, Grandmother. Margaret was born in the Bronx on December 8, 1920, to John and Katherine Stanek (Krajcirik), two Czechoslovakian immigrants. She attended public school in the Bronx and received her B.A. in mathematics from Hunter College in New York City. At 21 years old, she married Andrew Piedem. Margaret was employed by The Teacher's Insurance and Annuity Association and by the federal government as a statistician. After moving to Manville, Margaret worked for American Cyanamid in Bound Brook while working on her teaching certificate. She earned an M.B.A. in business administration from Rutgers University and completed additional graduate work for mathematics and education from various institutions. Margaret taught at Bridgewater High School for three years, Franklin High School for ten years, and at Somerset Community College (now Raritan Valley Community College) for 27 years, serving as department head for ten years. Margaret, widowed at the age of 37, made a way for herself in the world of business and education in order to provide for herself and her daughter, Cathleen. She delighted in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. He hobbies included reading, gardening, and spending time with her family. She also served in Somerset on the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church's Altar Guild.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Kathleen Stanek, and her sisters, Rose Stanek, Frances Kovac, and Josephine Miller. Margaret was also predeceased by her husband of fifteen years, Andrew. Surviving are her daughter, Cathleen Ehrich and her husband, Lothar of Cranbury; her grandchildren, Christie Kelly of Rochester, NY, Andrew Ehrich of Manville, and Erika Hart of Forest, VA, and three great grandchildren.
The viewing will be Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ketusky Funeral Home, 1310 Brooks Blvd., Manville, NJ (908-575-8512). The funeral will follow at the funeral home Thursday, folks are invited to arrive from 10:30 a.m. until the service time at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in New Cemetery, Somerville, NJ.
