Obituary of Patrick Dolan
Patrick Edwin Dolan, formerly of West Windsor, New Jersey, died on October 24th, 2017 at Arden Courts of Yardley, Pennsylvania.  He was eighty-two.

Born in Peckville, Pennsylvania, on March 15, 1935.  Raised in Throop, Pennsylvania, he was the beloved baby of the family of eight siblings after the death of his brother Paul in infancy.  When his exceptional athletic abilities were recognized, he moved to Scranton so that he could attend the larger and more competitive Scranton Technical High School.  At Tech, he was a three-season standout, widely recruited for both basketball and football, ultimately choosing to go to the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, to play football.  He earned a Football Monogram and a Bachelors Degree at Our Lady’s University.  He later earned a Masters Degree in Education Administration at Trenton State Teachers College.

Mr. Dolan’s move to Scranton Tech had an even bigger impact on his life than showcasing his athletic prowess.  It was there that he met the love of his life, Kathryn “Katie” Hahn, when they were fifteen and sixteen, respectively.   They married on September 6, 1958, and moved two days later to Mount Clemens, Michigan, where he started his first teaching and football coaching position at St. Mary’s High School and where their only child, Erin Anne Dolan, was born. Two years later, the family moved to Bound Brook, New Jersey, and later South River, New Jersey.  Mr. Dolan began a long career at Franklin Township High School in Somerset, New Jersey, as a teacher, Head Football Coach, Department Chair, and eventually Director of Athletics as well as coaching several other sports. He was a part-time assistant football coach at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey in the early 1970s.  Mr. Dolan retired after thirty-two years at Franklin to enjoy his retirement with his wife and their grandchildren upon whom they both doted.  After more than thirty years, the couple moved from South River to Village Grande in West Windsor in 2001.  After the death of his wife, Mr. Dolan moved to Arden Courts of Yardley where he died on Tuesday.  Mr. and Mrs. Dolan were both active members of every parish to which they belonged, including Corpus Christi Church and Saint David the King.  Mr. Dolan loved his wife, his daughter and grandchildren, his extended family, playing black jack and all things Notre Dame.  He had a great laugh, a lovely singing voice despite his coach’s calling, sparkling blue eyes and a great sense of humor.  He will be dearly missed.

Mr. Dolan is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Katie; his parents, John and Mary (Walsh) Dolan; his brothers, Paul Dolan, John “Jackie” Dolan, Joe Dolan, and, Tom Coyle; his sisters, Eleanor Abrams, and, Jeanne McGlynn; and, numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law and four nephews.  He is survived by his daughter, Erin Anne Dolan, and her husband, Christopher Paladino and their children, Connor Patrick Dolan Paladino, Mary Fiona Dolan Paladino and Faelen Anne Dolan Paladino; his sister, Mary de Sales Walsh; his sister-in-law, Doris Krayer; and, countless nieces, team mates, nephews, friends, neighbors, students, athletes and friends at Arden Courts.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Saint David the King Church, 1 Village Road West, Princeton Junction, New Jersey.

Calling hours will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the church.
