Mark Allen Skarich, 61, of Kerrville, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2009, in a San Antonio hospital.

"He was born April 22, 1948, in Mishawaka, Ind., to Pius and Florence (Baker) Skarich. On July 7, 1973, he married Nancy Morris.

"Mark was a loving husband and father and wore many hats. He had a strong work ethic and wasn't happy if a job was not completed. He never met a stranger and everyone considered him their best friend.

"Mark loved fatherhood and especially being Maggie's dad. He also loved his Tierra Linda Ranch living, woodworking, his black Lab, Tommy, music and was taking mandolin lessons. He was a member of Tierra Linda Volunteer Fire Department and Riders Advisory Group.

"Survivors include his wife, Nancy [Morris] Skarich of Kerrville; daughter, Maggie Skarich of Milwaukee, Wis.; brothers, Tony [Anton] Skarich of Flint, Mich., Fred Skarich of St. Paul, Minn., and Pius Skarich [Jr.] of South Bend, Ind."

ABOUT THE DIME: "6 years ago on May 12th (5-12) at 5 till 12:00 noon, my brother Mark died down in Texas. He wrecked his Harley and it took awhile for him to leave us, but he left us with lots of good memories too.

"This dime was in his dashboard when he wrecked. It rode out the wreck; I just wish Mr. Hoover could tell us all just exactly what happened that day..."
