Nicholas M. Carlo, 79, of Osceola, died in his residence on the morning of Wednesday, April 9, 2008. Nick was born on August 29, 1928, in South Bend. After his father Nicholas passed away shortly after his birth, Nicholas was raised by his mother, Irma (Hegyi) Dreibelbis, and his stepfather, William Dreibelbis. On October 28, 1950, in Mishawaka, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Maes, who preceded him in death on April 2, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Lusher. Surviving are three daughters, Cheryl (Terry) Stanfield of Mishawaka, Debra (Michael) Darrow of Coolidge, AZ, and Dawn (John) Keefer of Osceola; two sons, Nicholas (Laury) Carlo of South Bend and Michael (Julie) Carlo of Mishawaka; 10 grandchildren, Kathleen, Nicole, Elizabeth, Jessica, Jaiden, Megan, Nicholas, Austin, Matthew and Christopher; six great-grandchildren, Ryan, Brandon, Morgann, Chloe Ann, Wesley, Sammy, and one more, Kayden Joseph, due to arrive in May. Also, two sisters, Roseann Singleton of Mishawaka and Monica Eblen of South Bend; a brother, William (Jeanette) Dreibilbis of Florida; many cousins; and a godson, Rex Smith. Nicholas retired from the United States Postal Service in 1983 after 34 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church, the American Legion, Post 284, and the Mishawaka Moose Lodge. Nick was also an official with the IHSAA for seven years, played fast-pitch softball, and was an avid Notre Dame, White Sox and Colts fan. The family will receive friends today, April 13th, from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St., Mishawaka, IN, where the Holy Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 14th, in St. Bavo Catholic Church in Mishawaka, with the Rev. Barry England officiating. Contributions in memory of Nick may be made to the American Lung Association, 115 W.
