Kathy Jane Anderson (Klaer)

Kathy Jane (Anderson) Klaer

November 25, 1941 ~ July 3, 2025 83 Years Old

Kathy J. Klaer, a beacon of love and laughter, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, at the age of 83 in Mishawaka, IN. Kathy was born on November 25, 1941, in South Bend, IN, as the daughter of Walter and Greta (Hartley) Anderson, Kathy lived a life marked by dedication to education, devotion to family, and a spirit that brightened the lives of all who knew her.

Kathy's journey began as a bright-eyed student at Riley High School, where she laid the foundation for her lifelong love of learning. She continued her educational pursuits at Indiana University Bloomington for her undergraduate degree and later at Indiana University South Bend, where she earned her Master's. Her passion for education led her to a fulfilling 45 year career as a teacher specializing in learning disabilities in the Mishawaka School System. Kathy's exceptional dedication to her students was recognized when she was honored as Teacher of the Year, a testament to her unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of young people.

Her legacy as an educator is matched only by the love and warmth she brought to her family. Kathy's heart was always fullest when she was surrounded by her beloved husband,  Thomas L Klaer of 63 years, and their children, Thomas Klaer II and Michael Klaer, as well as her daughter-in-law, Melissa Klaer. Kathy's joy multiplied with the arrival of each grandchild— Payton, Kennedy, Sydney and Katy Klaer—whom she cherished with all her being. She also held fond memories of her late sisters, Carol Anderson Milligan and Jan Anderson Teachout, who predeceased her.

Her spirit found expression in her many interests, including her love for playing bridge, her voracious appetite for reading, and her enthusiasm as she watched her boys play sports. Kathy's happiest moments were those spent with her grandchildren, whether sharing stories, laughter, or simply being present in the warmth of their company. Those who knew Kathy would describe her as loving, kind, and funny—a woman whose humor and lightness of spirit never failed to lift the hearts of others.

Kathy's life was a tapestry woven with the threads of love, kindness, and education, leaving an indelible impression on the hearts and minds of those she touched. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive through the laughter of her grandchildren, the wisdom she imparted to her students, and the countless lives she enriched with her presence.
