In Memory
Alice “Cindy” Jean (Wittner) Detzler
March 16, 1923 ~ April 29, 2025
Alice Jean Detzler (Affectionately Cindy) 102, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025 in Indianapolis, IN. She was born March 16, 1923 in South Bend, Indiana to Lillian and Leo Wittner and graduated in 1941 from South Bend Riley High School. She was employed by South Bend Lathe Works and then The Studebaker Corporation where she met and married Dickson Detzler in 1947, who preceded her in death.
Alice was a member of the Indianapolis Hiking Club and was employed for many years as the office manager of the local Mutual of Omaha office. Many stories arose as she tried to keep that sales office in line. She enjoyed various crafting activities, especially quilting. Alice also loved the company of several kittens and cats over the years, but her real pleasure came from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. (And of course, she was particularly fond of cruising the town in the red 1963 Corvette that husband Dick had left her).
She is survived by sons Doug (Margo) and Donn (Kathy), grandchildren Stephanie (Alex), Dustin (Katie), Drew (Ally) and step grandchildren Kimberly Saba (Matt), Kelly Hinton (Grant), Allison Hynda (David), and Joshua Hanna (Liz) and 15 great-grandchildren.
A small private service will be held to honor Alice, with burial next to Dick in Highland Cemetery in South Bend. An online obituary will be found at Indiana Funeral Care.com.
