Beverly Jean (Brice) McGhee

SOUTH BEND - Beverly Jean McGhee, 83, passed away at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, January 1, 2009 in the Sanctuary at St. Paul's. She was born January 28, 1925 in South Bend, IN to Roy James and Dorothy (McKee) Brice.

On July 1, 1950, in South Bend, she married James P. McGhee, who preceded her in death on June 3, 1998. Mrs. McGhee is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Jean Horvath of South Bend; son, James Bryce (Janice) McGhee of South Bend; six grandchildren, David (Meleya) Horvath, Rebecca (William) Downey, Michael Horvath, Daniel McGhee, Jeffrey McGhee and Amanda (Dylan) Caparell; nine great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Brice of Wimauma, FL; two nieces, Sharon Creason, Christine Young and nephew, Michael Young. A great-granddaughter, Lilly Caparell preceded her in death.

Mrs. McGhee worked for twenty plus years at IUSB in the Division of the Arts as an events secretary. She also worked for 20 years as an office manager for the Boy Scouts of America. She was a member of the South Bend Symphonic Choir, member of the Ridgedale Presbyterian Church and choir director for many churches. She was a volunteer for the South Bend Civic Theatre and a family historian. Mrs. McGhee earned a BA degree from IUSB in 1995 at the age of seventy.
