Thomas James Newsom

February 14, 1971 ~ November 10, 2025 (age 54)

Thomas James Newsom, born on February 14, 1971 in Greenville, MS, was a beacon of strength, resilience, and joy to all who were blessed to know him. His life was an inspiring journey of hard work, compassion, and a love for laughter that left an indelible mark on everyone he met. Thomas, a tireless laborer in the factories of South Bend, Indiana, was known for his unwavering commitment to his craft. His journey from roofing and construction, to being a paint mixer at Lippert and NCP Coatings for eight years, to working on the dock and then driving a forklift for Welch Packing from 2022-2024, showcased his incredible work ethic and dedication.

Thomas’s love for sports was evident from his high school days, where he played football for Riley High School, ran track at Clay High School, and was celebrated as one of the school's best running backs. His sporting accolades were not just about personal achievements, but a testament to his team spirit, agility and resilience. Beyond his professional and athletic accomplishments, Thomas was a man of heart. He was a family man at his core, and his love for his loved ones was evident in every aspect of his life. He loved grilling and having everyone over, filling their hearts with joy through his delightful jokes, and their bellies with his delicious food.

Thomas is survived by his parents Kathryn Newsom of South Bend, IN and Thomas James Rancifer of Kansas City, MO, his children Devin and Thomas "TJ" James Newsom of South Bend, IN and Izayah Newsom of Toledo, OH, Savannah Newsom of Elkhart, IN,  LeShae Smith of Indianapolis, IN, and Desmond Eagan of Texas, his grandchildren Braize Betts, Nova Smith, and Emmett Newsom, his sister Patrice Rancifer, and his brothers Dwayne Newsom and DaJuan Scruggs. He now joins those who have preceded him in death: his brother Detrick Newsom, his grandfather's Lafayette Newsom, his grandmothers Martha Love, Naomi Newsom, and Janie Rancifer.

Friends and loved ones are invited to celebrate Thomas's life on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, with a visitation at 11:00am EST followed by a funeral service at 12:00pm EST at Alford's Mortuary, 1222 Napier Street, South Bend, Indiana. We encourage everyone to share their beloved memories and upload treasured photos of Thomas on the memorial page. His life was a tapestry of beautiful moments, woven together by love, laughter, and resilience, and each memory shared will keep his spirit alive in our hearts.
