Maisha Anika Harris-Mackey

January 6, 1973 ~ April 28, 2025      52 Years Old

With a heart full of love and spirit that knew no bounds, Maisha Anika Harris-Mackey was a beacon of light, empathy, and unwavering love. Born on January 6, 1973, in South Bend, Indiana, Maisha was a spirited individual whose touch of warmth could light up the darkest corners of a room. She spent 52 beautiful years in her hometown, painting the lives of those around her with strokes of compassion and generosity.

Maisha was a creative soul, a trait that manifested itself early in her life when she produced a play at the tender age of 8. Her creativity continued to blossom throughout her life and found expressions in her love for painting, cooking, baking, and photography, among other things. An active participant in the Black Expo during her senior year of high school and a vital part of SBCSC in various roles, Maisha's spirit was always geared towards growth and learning. Maisha's accomplishments were not limited to her personal and professional life.

As a devoted mother, she instilled the values of grace and compassion in her daughters -Dauvanique, Isis, Sahara, and Heiress Mackey. A deeply spiritual soul, Maisha believed in spreading love and light to everyone that she encountered. Her devout spiritual practices, which included prayer, fasting, and personal growth, were a testament to her unwavering faith. "Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it." (Hebrews 13:2). This verse encapsulated Maisha's belief in kindness and generosity, and she lived it every day, always willing to give the shirt off her back to anyone in need.

In her journey through life, Maisha left a trail of love and compassion, and her spirit will continue to live in the hearts of her daughters. She is also survived by her parents, Helen and William Harris. Let us celebrate Maisha’s compassionate, generous, loving, and spirited life together. Her legacy of love will continue to flourish through our shared memories and stories.
