Karren Joyce (Furlong) Wcisel
January 8, 1947 ~ June 19, 2025
Karren J. Wcisel (nee Furlong), age 78, a longtime resident of Naperville, IL and formerly of Chicago, IL and South Bend, IN, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025, at Sunrise of Naperville North with her family at her side.
She was born on January 8, 1947, in New Eagle, PA to the late Keen and Dorothy Furlong (nee Magnuson). Karren is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Thomas Wcisel, cherished son Brian (Sandi Swiss) Wcisel and dear siblings Jeryln (John) Corey and Robb (Kim) Furlong. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Vikkie (Frank) Verteramo.
Karren grew up in South Bend, IN, graduated from South Bend Adams High School class of 1965, Ball State University class of 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in Speech & Hearing and later earned her master’s degree in Speech & Hearing from the University of Illinois class of 1970.
Karren resided in Naperville since 1980. She was devoted to giving back to the Naperville community. Karen served as a volunteer computer aide at Mill Street School during her son, Brian’s, formative years. She was a devoted Loaves & Fishes volunteer in her golden years. Karren had a passion for computers, photography and nature. She enjoyed long walks at the Morton Arboretum. In her later years she discovered genealogy and traced back her family history. She was an avid Mexican train domino player until her struggles with dementia played the final domino. Karren’s strength, vibrant interests and talents will be fondly remembered. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends and her memory will live on eternally in their hearts.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Interment will be private.
