SOUTH BEND - Richard J. English, 74, Randolph County Attorney, of Union City, Indiana, passed away in his home on Sunday, October 12, 2008. Mr. English was born in South Bend, Indiana, on April 8, 1934, to the late Lonnie and Marie English. Mr. English was a graduate of the Indiana University School of Business and the Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington where he received his JD. He came to Union City, Indiana, in 1961 where he started practicing law with the late Kenneth C. Hinshaw. After Mr. Hinshaw's death, Mr. English practiced alone for 40 years. He was currently in practice with Mr. Ryan Prinkey, who was his partner at the law firm of English & Prinkey. Mr. English was a member and past president of the Randolph County Bar Association, and was also a member of the Indiana State Bar Association. Mr. English was a past president of the Art Association of Randolph County and was currently serving as a member of the board of directors. He was attorney for the City of Union City for 16 years, and was presently the attorney for the Randolph Eastern School Corporation. He was a member of the Union City Rotary Club, a current member of the Union City Library Board, and was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church of Union City. Richard is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jeanie English; his three children, Christopher English (wife, Martha) of River Forest, Illinois, Shannon English Collins (husband, Matthew Collins) of Carmel, Indiana, and Katherine English Franzak (husband, Mike Franzak) of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina; and his eight grandchildren, Michael, Katy and Maggie English, Conner, Natalie and Gray Collins, Caleb and Zoe Franzak. The following arrangements have been made with Reichard Funeral Home Inc. in Union City, Indiana. Friends may call in the funeral home from 3 to 8:30 PM Sunday, October 19th, and one hour prior to the funeral service which will be held at 1 PM Monday, October 20, 2008, in the Wesley United Methodist Church in Union City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in the name of Richard English to the Union City Community High School Happy Trails Scholarship Fund; to The Union City Public Library; or to The Randolph County Art Association, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
