William Ernest Trethewey, Jr.
September 9, 1929 ~ April 17, 2024 (age 94)
William “Bill” E. Trethewey, Jr., passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at the Center for Hospice Care—Raclin House, Mishawaka, IN, after a brief illness.
Bill was born on September 9, 1929 in South Bend, IN, to William E. Trethewey, Sr., and Agnes (Dunstan) Trethewey. He grew up in River Park and graduated from John Adams High School in 1948. He worked at Lamont's Pharmacy as a teenager and was a pharmacy apprentice. Later, Bill worked at Studebaker as a young adult. He served as a military policeman in the Korean War. Bill married Janice Kimes on April 15, 1955, and they had three children together. He worked for South Bend Beauty but retired from Dodge Manufacturing in May of 1993. Bill was a member of the Northway Church of Christ.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Agnes Trethewey; his wife, Janice Trethewey; his sister, Ruth Feirick; and brothers, Roger, David, and Geoffrey Trethewey.
Bill is survived by his three children: sons, Timothy (Leigh Ann Bell) Trethewey and Thomas (Diane) Trethewey, and daughter, Tamara (Jim) Gibb. Bill is also survived by two sisters, Sylvia Steinke and Kathleen Shaefer; grandchildren, Rachael (Alan) Blackmer, Karissa Sotala, Ashley (Chris) Johnson, Jon (Maren) Gibb, Emily (Tristan Bazeley) Gibb, Suzanne Gibb, Jenna (Brandon) Trethewey, Andy (Josie) Trethewey, Grace (Noah) Trethewey and Denae Jones; and great-grandchildren, James, Abigail and John Blackmer, and Cora Bazeley.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at Northway Church of Christ, 19525 Auten Road, South Bend, Indiana. A military salute will follow the memorial service.
Elkhart Cremation Services has been entrusted with his care.
