Charmane R. Nestlerode Feb. 10, 1931 - Aug. 31, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Charmane R. Nestlerode, 83, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2014, at the Avante Nursing Home in Mount Dora, Florida. Charmane was born on February 10, 1931, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Herbert G. and Letha F. (Rockhill) Franklin. She lived in the South Bend area before moving to Leesburg, Florida. On June 11, 1950, in South Bend, she was united in marriage to Dare L. Nestlerode, who survives. Charmane was a devoted wife, standing by her husband as he served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War Conflict. She loved and cherished her role as a homemaker. While living in South Bend, she attended the Evangelical Covenant Church where she was also a Sunday School teacher. In addition to her loving husband, Dare L Nestlerode of Leesburg, Florida, Charmane is survived by daughters, Jill D. (Fred) Shank of Cassopolis, MI, and Jamie D. (Darryl) Anderson of Lafayette, IN; son, Joel D. Nestlerode of South Bend, IN; grandchildren, Michelle Shank Davis, Ernest Fred Shank, Amanda Lynn Nestlerode, Jeremy Joel Nestlerode and Bryanna Craig; and sister, Sue Franklin (George) Beamer of Granger, IN. Twin great-grandchildren, Morgan Francesca and Wynn Everett Davis, were born on the day Charmane passed away. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter; a son, John Joseph Nestlerode; and sisters, Geraldine Franklin Solebeck and Kathleen Franklin Barna. After raising her family, Charmane studied nursing at Southwestern Michigan College in Dowagiac, MI, where she was just shy of earning her degree in nursing. She was a Campfire Girls leader and enjoyed collecting birdhouses. Funeral services for Charmane R. Neslterode will be 10:00 am Monday, September 8, 2014, at Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Graveside services and burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, IN. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 - 7:00 pm Sunday, September 7, 2014, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 N. Beauregard Street, Alexandria, VA 22301; or to the American Heart Association of Northern Indiana, 6100 W. 96th Street, Suite 200, Indianapolis, IN 46278.
