Gary Hatch was not only our Class President, but a friend to all.  He was our General Sterling Scholar, a gifted debator and public speaker, student, and leader.  He earned a Bachelor's degree in English from BYU and a PhD in English Rhetoric from Arizona State University.  He was an avid Scouter, and a leader in his LDS Wards, including serving as Bishop.  He taught on the faculty at BYU for over fifteen years, serving in positions of leadership including University Dean of Writing and Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education.  He wrote numerous academic articles and books.  Most of all he was a wonderful person, a dedicated and loving father, husband, and friend.  He passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2010.  Words cannot express the loss that we feel, nor the love that we have for this great friend whom we were lucky enough to know.
