South Pasadena, California (KABC)--A homicide investigation is underway after a South Pasadena man was found dead inside his home, and loved ones believe someone may have taken advantage of his kindness and generosity.

Friends identified the victim as 69-year-old Toby Peters. Detectives said although the victim died Friday night in his home, they discovered his body the following morning. Authorities have only said he suffered blunt force trauma to the head.

Peters' friends say he inherited incredible wealth and property from his father. They added he remained in the home his father built because he grew up there. Friends say he had a big heart for humanity and used his wealth to help the homeless and others in need.

Some didn't want to be on camera out of fear they could be next. One friend told Eyewitness News off-camera that they are convinced Peters was targeted and murdered by someone he tried to help. Another friend said he just can't imagine anyone harming such a good soul.

I am so sad to hear that this happened to Toby.  He was a good soul who cared for others. I do hope that they find his assailant.  Toby made a positive difference in so many lives.

Very sad indeed.  I had some great times with Toby in Jr. High riding mini bikes and go carts.

So sad to hear the news of Toby's passing. He was always such a nice guy in high school, always friendly and with a great smile!

Seeing this terrible news about Toby makes me so grateful for our recent reunion where we were able to re connect after 50 years. Toby's dad and mine were good friends so our families enjoyed many waterskiing vacations together at the Sacramento Delta in our early teens. Thanks to the reunion committee I got to hug him before it was too late.

My Brother, I wish you rest. We will see each again soon.  You were one of the good people I had in my life. Although we did not die young you were not ready. My tears and love will always hold you in my heart.

I hope no ill to the one that did this to you but he or she will pay dearly in the hear after.

                              I will miss you.

I remember Toby as a warm-hearted, good-natured fellow who almost always had that smile and chuckle which made me feel good! Toby and Jason Card were quite the pair of friends who kept us grinning. RIP my kind-souled friend 💔.
