Thomas W. Monaghan, age 64 from Pinckney, MI, passed away October 6, 2019 following a lengthy battle with leukemia. He was born June 24, 1955, in Korea. He was adopted in 1964 by Charles Walter Monaghan and Mary Monaghan.
Thomas received his Master's from Talbot Seminary, La Mirada, CA
Thomas was a Pastor for over 30 years; most recently at The Word Church, John 1:1, in Brighton MI. His passions were, his grandchildren, nature, and living God's word. His ministry brought the Gospel of Jesus Christ to many through his genuine care and love for others. He is survived by: wife, Korinne T. Monaghan, son; Kelly Monaghan (Married to Marianne), grandchildren; Asia, Samuel, Savannah, and Judah Monaghan. Predeceased in death by his parents Charles Walter, and Mary.

oh my, isn't it amazing to realize that we all know so little of one another in the passing hallways of high school. it would be fascinating to know what, as a pastor for so many years, tom's reflection would be on the last few, after he left his body. here's to the ones that have left, may they remind us to love deeply, daily! here's to your next adventures, tom.

Paul Mayberry and I became friends with Tommy right after he moved to So Pas. He lived with his mother in the apartments at the corner of Marengo and Huntington Drive. He had a kindness to him that was innate and is rarely demonstrated at such a young age, perhaps borne of the hardships he endured coming from Korea and being adopted. I remember him racing away from everyone in the 50 yard dash in Jr. High. I'm not surprised to learn he became a pastor. I'm sure he was a positive influence on countless lives. The world is diminished with his passing.

Oh, my goodness! This announcement absolutely breaks my heart. I wondered for years how Tommy was doing. I last saw him years ago at the I. Magnin's store in South Coast Plaza (Costa Mesa, CA), where he recognized me. We had a brief talk where I learned he was a pastor in Pomona at the time. I wish we had exchanged contact info and kept in touch, but we hadn't. I've known Tommy since first grade where we were in Miss Nash's class at Marengo School. He spoke little English at the time, saying his first word was 'PIANO." He was unmercifully bullied by boys in the upper grades at Marengo, throwing him off his bicycle, calling him names, and throwing punches. I remember on several occasions running to his mother's house at the corner of Huntington Dr. and Marengo Ave. saying he was in trouble - again. (I left So. Pas after 3rd grade, returning in 7th grade) Once in Jr. High, I was so relieved to see Tommy thriving as both scholar and athlete. Oh, that boy could run! He was such a remarkable individual who overcame so many obstacles and handled them with grace. Not everyone could be as resilient and forgiving as Tommy. No wonder he became a pastor. Blessings to him and his family.

So sad to hear that Tom Monaghan has passed on to eternity. What an interesting background Tom had. I did not know Tom was a pastor that is awesome. I know as a believer that he is home with the Lord who he served sharing his faith as a pastor.. I remember a story the fellas told me about Tom as he was playing on the Sophmore B Football team at So Pas. Coach Kabaelo (spell check) used to have his former players come to practice and suit up to practice with the sophmores to teach them how to play and how to be tough etc.. Story goes Tom who was lightning fast was lined up at Split end and ran a pass route aka the long Bomb where Tom Sprinted full speed after the snap to outrun the defenders ,, Tom ran a a pefect route was wide open due his speed but had to slow down a bit to haul in the pass that was thrown a bit short. Just as Tom snagged the Ball on of Coach Kabealos former studs probably in has late teens 19 oo 20 at the time smashed into Mongahan running at full speed with Tom almost at a stop to stop to catch the errant pass.. The collision between Tom and the Old Tiger I believe his name was Scott Wilson (quite a player for Kabealo) was not a pretty sight. Tom was knocked off his feet and smashed into the ground by the larger, stronger former Tiger .. Tom quickly got up from the brutal hit he took thankfully and sprinted into the Locker Room never to be seen again on a Football Field for the Tigers. Tom you were the man and will always be remembered for your kind and gentle soul . Although I probably never said more than Hi to you on a few occasions I will always remember you .. God Bless and hope to meet again on the other side ...
