Brian Cannon

South River, NJ.  Brian Cannon, age 79 of South River, passed away peacefully after a batttle with cancer, on Saturday with his loving family by his side.  Born and raised in South River, he was a proud alumnus of South River High and Rutgers College.  He served in the US Navy as was home ported in Naples, Italy for three years.  He belonged to the American Legion Post #214 for 35 years.  The USS Alameda County LST Association for the past 28 years and the US LST Association for the past 25 years.

Brian retired from EI DuPont as a mmber of their 25-year club.  He enjoyed routinely getting together with his pals from OLV Elementary School of Sayreville.

He is predeceased by his parents Leo F. and Margaret Rock Cannon, two brothers, Leo J and Matthew, his sister, Barbara Ann.  He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Jean (Manns) of 54 years, his son Sean, his three daughters, Maureen Thompson (Tuker), Laura Tarallo (Micael) and Cait LeMonica (Stephen), his four grandchildren, Alan, Claire, Anna and Julia.  He is also survived by his sisters, Margaret Hall, Mary Jane Kohlhepp and his brother James and wife Loretta, as well as by many loving nieces and nephews.  He loved and was loved by four cairn terriers, MacNasty, Maggie Magee, Buster and MacDermot.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:15 am from the Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Ave. with a 10 a.m. Mass at Corpus Christ R.C. Church in South River. Burial will follow at New Calvery Cemetery in Parlin.  Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, 4 Gary Road, Union, NJ.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
