Richard Dreger

Richard Dreger

Richard S. Dreger Sr., died Friday, May 20, 2011 at his home in North Brunswick.  He was 70.  He was born on May 20, 1940 in South River, NJ, son of Mary Dreger and Reinhold Dreger (deceased).  Richard was a proud alumni of Lehigh University where he received his B.S. in mechanical engineering and was a proud member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, Gamma Lambda chapter and the Asa Packer Society.  He enjoyed his work immensely and never fully retired as President of his family's business.  Richard's love for the Jersey shore brought family and friends to his "Sandcastle" in Lavalette, NJ.  Warm salt air breezes and the sound of children's laughter with the light of his summers.  He also loved his country and was 2nd class Petty Officer in the United States Coast Guard Reserves.  A member of the Philo Lodge, F&AM, a member of the North Brunswick Media Advisory Board, Vice Chairman of North Brunswick Industrial Development Committee and member of the Lavallette Yacht Club.  Richard was an active and engaged community member.  Richard's love of life, dedication to his family, sense of humor and his quiet humility will be forever remembered and charished by his loving and grateful family and his devoted friends.

Our family is so thankful to Dr. Michael Nissenblatt and his staff for their amazing care given during his challenging journey.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joyce Yovino Dreger of North Brunswick, his daughter Deborah Tierney (Steven), his son Richard S. Dreger Jr. (Kathryn) and brother Ronald Dreger (Carol).  Richard was a beloved grandfather ("Papa") to his grandchildren, Kyle, Shannon Joy, Caeley Rae and Emily Tierney and Genevieve and Meghan Dreger, as well as a loving uncle to his nieces Laura Graney (John) and Christine Chaney (Judson) and their children Lila, Colton and Vivian.  Richard was also a well-loved and loyal friend to many.

Funeral services were held at the Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick, mass at Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church in North Brunswick, followed by entombment at Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick.
