James L. Schaller

October 19, 1942-May 28, 2925

Jim Schaller, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away on May 28, 2025. Jim fought a long 13-year battle with a rare form of Neuroendocrine Carcinoid Cancer. Jim's cancer depicted his courage and way of facing life's challenges with a smile, sense of humor and perserverance. In addition to his loving wife Carol, Jim is survived by his son Jeff (Judy), daughter Angela (King) and grandson King. Jim is also survived by his two bonus sons, David Monastero (Michelle) with grandson Michael, and Doug Monastero (Jeanette) with grandson Ryan and granddaughter Taylor.

Jim is also survved by his sister Pat, nephew Kent Aden (Toni), with grandnephew Justin and grand niece Ashley, and niece Kelly (Michael).

Jim is predeceased by his parents Donald and Ruth Schaller. Jim grew up in northeastern Nebraska with a lifetime love of all sports. Early on, he loved to go fishing, hunting and playing golf. At 14 he was the Junior Golf Champion at South Ridge Golf Course. Junior and Senior High School brought on football, basketball, track and American Legion baseball.

Jim was the 1960 Track Pentathlon Winner at his high school with then a school record of 3428 points. Jim excelled in pole vaulting and running the 100 and 200 dashes.

Baseball was, perhaps, Jim's favorite and best sport. He played for 18 years all over Nebraska and Iowa where he was a member of many All-Star Teams.

Jim graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where son Jeff was born. Jim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a degree in Economics. Jim was a Fullbright Award Winner for Excellence in Marketing. He was a proud member of the ATO Fraternity.

Jim  is also the holder of a Commercial Instrument Rating as a pilot, and loved to fly.

He wa a proud Navy veteran and a member of Navy Attack Squadron 75 at Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia Beach, Virginia. They were the first squadron to get the A-6A Intruder.

Jim's business career began with Armstrong World Industries. After training, he was sent to Minneapolis where daughter Angela was born in 1970. in 1971, Jim and family trasnferred to San Diego, California. Jim joined Tarkett North America in 1980 as San Diego Manager. In 1983, Jim was promoted to Los Angeles Manager, and, in 1984 to Western Regional Manager.

In 1988, Jim returned to San Diego as a Commercial Flooring Contractor in his own business. The investment proved very successful in the business world in the late 1988's and thereafter.

Jim and his frist wife Carol divorced in 1979. In 1984, Jim married Carol Monastero. Jim and Carol enjoyed many happy years of golfing in Club Corps of America and Shadowridge Country Club where Jim was on the Board of Dirctors and Club Chairman in 1998. Together they also enjoyed mnay years of boating, water skiing , and wave runners at their second home on the Colorado River.

!i 2006 Jim and Carol moved to Coronado Island near San Diego where they purchased a home on San Diego Bay. Of sourse, buying a bigger boat for fishing in the ocean was first on the list. Jim loved the idea of his boat and water toys being behind his house. Jim and Carol also joined the Coronado Men's and Women's Golf Club as well as the Coronado Cays Yacht Club.

Jim always said his proudest achievement was his family. He marveled at the success of this children and his grandchildren.

Jim's legacy will live on in the love, kindness and memories he created and the countless lives he touched. At a later date, a Celebration of Jim's life will be held at the Coronado Cays Yacht Clulb.
