Janet Griffin (Larson)

Janet Griffin (Larson)

Janet Griffin was born in 1956 in Birmingham, Michigan. She was number three among four children, with an older sister and brother, and a younger brother. She was very active in her church, Grace Baptist Church in Birmingham. Janet spent her three high school years at SCS where she played clarinet in the band. One of her teachers remembers her as a shy, quiet student who excelled in her class and had a beautiful smile. The senior verse she chose was Psalm 139:23-24, “Search me O God and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way of everlasting.” After graduating high school, Janet attended Grand Rapids Baptist College and traveled abroad on band tours and with a woodwind ensemble, and later played in the Rochester Symphony. Janet married Danny Larson in 1979, who worked as an assembly worker for Pontiac Motor Division. They had two children, Elizabeth and Walter. Her family characterized her as a woman of faith which was expressed throughout her life, a genuinely kind individual who made many lifelong friends along the way. The family moved around for a few years but ultimately settled back in Michigan where Janet worked in a group home, as well as assisting her brother with his appliance business. Unfortunately, she passed at a much too young age due to liver cancer. She was laid to rest at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery in Troy, Michigan.
