In Memory

Jesse Johnson

Jesse Johnson

When Jesse Hal Johnson died suddenly on June 19, 1979, all of us were deeply shocked and saddened.  As friends and teachers, we saw his example in the life he led.  But moreover, we remember him for the kind of person he was, his high standards of honor were deep inside a body firmly planted on the ground yet reaching for the stars.  You could trust him with a secret, you could ask him for a favor, you could trade him a corny joke for a sincere laugh any day.  As you looked up into his clear blue eyes, there was truly a light shining in them.  That light is gone from our sight now, but we are gladdened by our memories of Jesse.

He was such a silly boy. I don't think he ever called me anything but "Lelly". His death at 16 was such a hard thing to get my mind around. I wonder what he would have grown up to be?

I think of Jessie and what a good friend he was. Funnie always smiling, joking, laughing. He left a hole in our class when he was taken from us. Diane Carter Tew

In Debate, Jesse always called me "Victor" . . . and in turn I called him "Jessica". Such fun memories . . .
