Curtis B. Phelps, 47, of St. Paul, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on May 3, 2013 at St. John's Hospital in Maplewood, Minnesota. He was about to start his third day of chemotherapy for a cancer that was recently diagnosed.
Curt was born to Robert and Catherine Phelps in Marshall, Minnesota on January 26, 1966. He was raised in Sparta, Wisconsin and graduated from Sparta High School in 1984.
Curt is greatly missed by his parents and sister, Renee (Robert) Scheiben, nephew Daniel, and niece Sarah, all of Little Canada, Minnesota. He is further survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He is deeply missed by his special friend, AnnaLisa Anderson of St. Paul, Minnesota.
In recent years Curt had been working at Radio City in Moundsview, Minnesota. Amateur radio has been a big part of his life since his teen years, thanks to his Grandpa Thole.
Other interests include Star Trek and anything science fiction. He has also volunteered for several years at Vocal Esssence concerts. Since last August he has volunteered at the Railroad Museum in St. Paul.
A memorial service will be held at the Mueller-Bies Funeral Home in Roseville, Minnesota on May 8, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Phil Rask officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 - 1:00.
A memorial service will also be held in Sparta, Wisconsin on May 15, 2013 with the Reverend John Monahar officiating.
Burial will be in St. Patrick's cemetery in Sparta, Wisconsin.
Curt was a very good friend back in Middle School and High School. Curt encouraged me to get into programming and he and I spent many an afternoon after school learning together. That time spent is part of the reason I've made programming my career. Thank you, Curt, and I'm very sorry to hear about your passing.
I second Alan's comments on Curt. I doubt many people in our class new him much but he was very interesting person. I recall visiting his house and him working on some electronics sodering away. Even though I haven't seen him in years I was saddened by the news.
