LEWIS, Kevin L., MD
Born November 18, 1962 in Honolulu, HI, Kevin tragically left his family January 8, 2008. He grew up in Spokane, WA attending Indian Trail Elementary, Salk Jr. High, and Shadle Park H.S., graduating in 1981. He attended EWU on a track scholarship and completed his undergraduate education in Pre Med at the University of Washington in 1985. He attended medical school at the Uniform Services University of the Health Sciences in Maryland, graduating in 1989. Following graduation, Kevin interned at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver CO, followed by two years as a flight surgeon. His medical service with the Army took Kevin around the world including Egypt's Sinai Peninsula where he met his wife Anneke, a communications specialist for the Dutch Navy. Kevin and Anneke were married while stationed at Ford Ord, CA. He completed his medical residency at Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, WA and served in Heidelberg, Germany. Kevin concluded his military career in Honolulu, HI, leaving the Army as a Colonel. He brought his family to Spokane in 2001 and joined the staff at Holy Family Hospital as an anesthesiologist. An avid sportsman and athlete, Kevin and his family were involved in Pop Warner football and the 49 degrees North F.A.S.T. ski team. He loved playing basketball, attended Zag basketball games and spent endless hours enjoying water sports on Long Lake. Kevin is survived by his wife Anneke; his sons Kendall and Jesse; his daughter Alison; parents Leon and Barbara Lewis; sister, Kathy and her husband Roger Walser; along with in-laws, Andre and Henny van Diere, sisters-in-law Erica (Evert) and Heleen (Ton); and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Kevin was fun-loving, well-respected and will be missed by all who loved him. The public is invited to attend a Memorial Service Tuesday, January 15th at 1:00 pm at First Church of the Nazarene at 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mark Rypien Foundation - 926 W. Sprague, Suite 580 Spokane, WA 99201.
