Bruce Carey Samuels

Bruce Carey Samuels

(This is a revised obituary. The prervious one was in error.)

Bruce Carey Samuels was born April 20, 1946, to Earlene and Jack Samuels in Spokane, WA. He graduated from Lewis & Clark High School in 1964. He worked at the Flour Mill in Spokane for a while. While in school he had a job taking care of horses and this led to a career of 30 years of also training racehorses, at which he was very successful. Bruce was part of a family of aunts, uncles and cousins he would see at major holidays several times a year and he was well liked by all. He also worked at Lowe's store in Yakima for nine years. Bruce got married when he was 22. This ended and after a while he married the love of his life, Lisa. They took many trips in the Northwest in their RV and after she died Bruce, and his dog Marley continued to travel each year to Idaho, Washington State and Montana. He attended church and had a group of friends he frequently saw. He and his cousin Cathy in Montana started keeping in touch frequently and she learned about horses and a lot of interesting family history. He came to Montana and gave her a great 75th Birthday Celebration she will never forget! He was planning to come over this summer again and also attend his 60th reunion at Lewis & Clark High School. Bruce had a great mom in Earlene who raised him well. He was smart, kind and generous and a great dad to his terrier, Marley. He liked to do yard work and renovate his home. He is loved deeply and missed and mourned by many. Cathy misses their frequent phone calls and visits beyond words. His loved ones didn't expect him to die so suddenly. Bruce went through major health occurrences and met each one with courage and positivity. Our hearts are broken that he has been taken from us. Bruce was pre-deceased by his mother, Earlene; grandmother, Alice Majors; and brother, Leonard Fluno. He is survived by his cousin, Cathy Shephard, and his dog, Marley. Cremation has taken place. Those that wish to can make a contribution to a local horse rescue in Spokane or Washington State. Cathy would love to hear from those who knew Bruce, you can call at 406-594-1160.

Bruce lived two doors down from me.  We went to Sheridan, Libby and LC together.  He was a pal.  We tent camped in the backyard, went fishing at Deer Lake and spent a few afternoons at Playfair where his father trained horse.  Bruce later became a horse trainer himself.  Bruce's talents included bowling at which he was a real star.
