Ronald Benjamin Sanlin, 37, Normal, died at 5:17 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 8, 2010) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington, with the Rev. Shirley Wallace officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Springfield Tennis Academy.
He was born April 28, 1973, in St. Louis, Mo. He married Anna L. Fermin on July 31, 2004, in Springfield. She survives.
Also surviving are his son, Jaelon Bautista Sanlin, at home; mother, Teresa Washington, Springfield; father, Jerome Sanlin, East St. Louis; two sisters, Tyona Sanlin, East St. Louis, and Nicole Sanlin, St. Louis, Mo.; one brother, Andre Sanlin, St. Louis, Mo.; paternal grandparents, Margaret and Argene Sanlin, East St. Louis; parents-in-law, Drs. Patria and Salvador Fermin, Springfield; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Barbara and Gerald Vardiman.
Ronald received his bachelor of science degree in criminal justice from the University of Illinois at Springfield and his master of science degree in criminal justice from Grambling State University in Grambling, La. He was employed as a Life Company supervisor with State Farm Insurance Cos. Ronald was the goalie for the 1993 NAIA National Championship soccer team at Sangamon State University.
He was a Mason and a member of Masonic Central Lodge 3, Free and Accepted Masons, and was Prince Hall affiliated. Ronald was a member of St. Patrick Church of Merna, Bloomington.
He played soccer and coached for the Bloomington/Normal Soccer Club. He also enjoyed golf, tennis, poker, working on his bonsai trees, music and reading.
Ron enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, most of all with his wife and son.
