TATE, Jr., George Ernest 62, of Springfield, went to be with our Lord Friday, August 4, 2017 at Riverside Hospital. He was born June 6, 1955 in Springfield, the son of George E. and Norma Lee (Welch) Tate, Sr.

George loved sports, especially Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Reds, and OSU football. He was a kind-hearted laid-back free-spirit who would do anything for anybody. He was loved by and will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his step-mom, Ruth Tate; daughter, Marcie; several grandchildren; sisters, Candy (Terry) Knapp of Springfield, Sherrie (Boyd) McCarty of Urbana, and Denise Deaton of Charleston, SC; nieces and nephews, Terry Shawn Knapp of Springfield, Kim Massie, Dana Fazekas, both of SC, and Wilbur "Will" Massie of TX; and numerous other family members and lots of friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Herb Welch, Clarence Tate, Verna Tate-Bowen, Mary "MeMe" O'Brien, and Floyd "Gang" O'Brien, and his parents.

There will be a celebration of George's life at 6:00 p.m. Monday, August 14 in the VFW 3660, 2741 Columbus Avenue, Springfield, with Pastor Rick Clos officiating. Arrangements entrusted to the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME.
