...with no official obituary available, the following special message seems very appropriate, received by the Remembering Classmates committee.
from Shirley Harlow, Susan's sister - March 20, 2010 -
"Wow, amazing. Susie was my big sister and it is so rare that I run into anyone who remembers her.... I can give you the facts of her life. She was born April 23, 1943 in Springfield to Ralph S. Harlow and Mary Murray Harlow. She went to the one room school in Amsden, VT then to Springfield HS. She had been in 4-H, was crazy about Elvis, starched petticoats, Juicy Fruit gum and dances and boys. She was diagnosed with Leukemia in August of 1958, and with very little treatment in those days died on December 20, 1958. My dad had died in 1948, so that left our little family of just my mom and me. It broke my mom's heart as you can imagine. In 1961 after I finished 8th grade in Perkinsville she moved us to Burlington after she had finished practical nurses training. Even though we have always had famly in the area she did not move back here until the 1990's. My Mom just died on Feb. 28 so I guess this is why you are getting more info than you asked for (sorry!). Thank you, it would please my mom so much to think people remembered............"

Hi Shirley,
I just read your comment of Susan's life. I realize you don't know many people who remembers her, it was so long ago. But I would like you to know that I not only remember her very well, but we were pretty close and I miss her very much even today. She was a very pleasant and happy girl. We had a lot of fun.
The only good thing from her passing is that she went fairly quick rather than hanging on and suffering for years! She was a very good friend.
Take care, Sandi

I remember Susie very well. We were good friends. I remember being in EHS class (at Riverside I think) I think . We sat together and giggled a lot. Sue Cahee

I remember Susan and Shirley and their mother Mary. My first mental picture of her is in the school hallway with her very full skirt and more petticoats than any one I had ever seen in person. She is carrying books and talking and laughing. We had a few classes together and were both in CYO. When she was in the hospital, my mother was one of her RN's. While hospitalized, mom washed her hair. She talked about that off and on for years marveling at how, even very ill, Sue wanted to look nice when visitors came. My mother always admired the strength Shirley and Mary showed during this very difficult time. God rest!

I remember Sue and her smile, as if it were yesterday. She was such a sweet, even, soul. The class picture of her is SO Sue!

Oh, my, to hear about Sue Harlow after all these years brings memories of looong ago...... I didn´t know her
very well, though I lived in Perkinsville, too. We probably rode the same bus to school, but had no social
life together. I remember her sitting on the left side of , I suppose home-room, always looking well-put-
together, very pretty , her long blond hair shiny and neat. Then she got sick, and died very shortly. It was
the first time I learned about leukemia..... I am happy to learn more details of Sue , and wish I´d known her
better. I send blessings to her family and thank her sister for posting the Memorium..... Ashley Smith de Acuña

Susan was a gentle sweet classmate who left a stunning emptiness when she passed. Many of us had never been exposed to serious illness of a friend, young as we still were, and had to face the reality of her passing. Love to her family.

I wish that I had known Susie better. As it was we would talk occasionally, joke in the hallways and make noises in the library. Like most of us at that time, I had no idea what Leukemia was or the sewriousness of it. Susie educated me when I visited her in the hospital a few times. She was a happy and brave soul...
