Obituary

 GREENFIELD - Phyllis M. (Brodeur) Britton, 73, of Barton Road died Monday, 11/7/16 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH. She was born in Claremont, NH on October 9, 1943, the daughter of Armand P. and Margret L. (Couture) Brodeur. She was a graduate of Springfield High School in Springfield, VT, Class of 1961. She continued her education, receiving her Bachelor's Degree in education from the American International College in Springfield, MA in 1966. She then received her Master's Degree in 1982.

Phyllis was a social studies teacher, starting her career at Charlemont High School from 1966-1967. In 1967, she went to teach at Greenfield High School until 1982, then Greenfield Middle School until her retirement in January of 1996. During her teaching career, Phyllis mentored many interns from the University of Massachusetts, created a program for speakers from the town government and mock voting, developed a curriculum of Recent American History and U.S. Government and served on the Evaluation Committees for several Massachusetts High Schools.

After her retirement, Phyllis was a volunteer in the Gift Shop at the Baystate Franklin Medical Center and mentored third graders in math and reading at Leesburg Elementary School in Florida.

Phyllis enjoyed reading, golf, bridge bowling and swimming. She loved her dogs Oliver and Maggie, and hated doing housework. Phyllis enjoyed spending the winters in Leesburg, Florida for sixteen years. There was not a person she met who she didn't engage in conversation; she had a unique talent for bringing people together and making them smile that will be deeply missed.

Among her survivors, Phyllis leaves a brother, Michael R. Brodeur of Hudson, NH; nieces and nephews, Debbie Ithier and her husband Ed of Hooksett, NH, Michelle Beckenstein and her husband Larry of Manchester, NH, Michael Masella and his wife Michelle, of Merrimack, NH, Jennifer Martins of Hudson, New Hampshire, Kristina and Michael A. Brodeur, both of Nashua, NH and Shana Marie Gilstrap of Spokane, WA; and many great-nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was predeceased by her husband of thirty one years, David L. Britton on June 18, 2000, and a sister, Marjorie E. Masella in 2003.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Saturday 11/12 at 12 noon at Holy Trinity Church, 133 Main Street, Greenfield with the Monsignor Ronald Yargeau officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Greenfield.

A calling hour will be held Saturday morning from 10:45-11:45am at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield.
