Patricia Flynn

RIVERTON -- Patricia Anne Flynn passed away at her home in Riverton on Tuesday, June 22, 2010.

Patricia was born in Rutland on Feb. 24, 1943, and attended school in Springfield where she grew up. A high achiever, Patricia attended Vassar College and Harvard Law School on full scholarships, where she was awarded honors.

In her illustrious career, Patricia worked for several law firms in New York City before joining Deltec International Ltd. for whom she managed a major resort development in the Bahamas. Later, she became corporate counsel for Paine Webber Inc., a major firm on Wall Street.

After her career in New York, Patricia practiced law in Vermont and was a licensed real estate agent for a prominent firm in Stowe.

In her latter years, Patricia had a practice focusing on international commerce, also serving as a consultant to the New Mexico State Legislature.

Ever a Vermonter, Patricia returned home to Vermont with her husband, Daniel McGowan, and sought to renew a small country store that was the heart of her community. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.

Patricia had a lifelong love of books, including rare editions. Her friends at Kellogg Hubbard Library will most certainly miss her. A corner of the country store was to be dedicated to the many volumes she had assembled.

Patricia is survived by her husband, Dan; as well as her sisters, Kelly Flynn of Fort Worth, Texas, and Teresa Hongisto of Red Springs, N.C.; and her brother, Michael Flynn of Lyndon Center. She was predeceased by her father, George William Flynn, and her mother, Eleanor Heidel-Flynn.

A commemoration service will be held at a later date (to be announced) in her home village of Riverton.

Donations may be made in Patricia's memory of the Patricia Flynn Memorial Fund to help fulfill her dedicated dream to revive Riverton.
