PENACOOK --Woodrow W. "Woody" Simonds Sr., 65, died June 19, 2009, at Concord Hospital after a long fight with many medical issues.

He was born July 20, 1943, in Springfield, Vt., to Elwood W. Simonds and Veronica E. Simonds. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, George Lambert.

He attended and graduated from Springfield High School in Vermont.

While in Springfield, he owned and operated his own taxi business, then worked for Jones and Lamson Machine Tool Co.

After moving to New Hampshire, he was employed by Edgecomb Steel, Zodiac News and McCordwinn for many years.

The family includes his wife of 35 years, Catherine Simonds; a daughter, Chrissy Simonds of Manchester; a son, Woody Simonds Jr. of Manchester; three grandchildren; a brother, Stephen Simonds of Winterville Plantation, Maine, and several nieces and nephews..

SERVICES: A memorial gathering is at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover St., Manchester, followed by a memorial service at 5 p.m.
