James Stewart

SPRINGFIELD - James L. Stewart, 73, died Nov. 10, 2016, while working his trap line.

He was born Oct. 17, 1943, in Springfield, the son of Leonard and Dorothea (Wyman) Stewart. He graduated in 1961 from Springfield High School.

Mr. Stewart served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, retiring as a senior chief.

After his Navy career, he held a variety of positions, submarine repair consulting, real estate and school maintenance, retiring at Cavendish Elementary School. Mr. Stewart was a director of Vermont Trappers Association, a trapping instructor for Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department, a member of Precision Valley Rod and Gun Club and the American Legion. He enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing, rod building and fly tying.

Survivors include two children Kevin of North Springfield and Sonia of Seattle; his life partner of 15 years, Jean Millett of Springfield; a sister, Beth Cijka of West Rutland; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Anne Stewart.

The memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 19, at First Congregational Church
