Wow, looking at my high school picture looks like I've put on a couple of pounds. I think I only weighed 125 lbs, so there was really only one way to go.

Lets see, graduated from Alfred University in 1989. First job sent me on a cement plants of the world tour (Korea, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador). Got tired of all the travel and took a job in Toledo, OH. If you've never been there, congratulations. Sandy and I were married in 1994. We chased different careers, and finally moved to Charleston, SC in 1998. We fell in love with the place and have been here ever since. It's a relaxing place. Great weather, beautiful city and we're just a few miles from the Atlantic. Hurricanes threaten every once in awhile to keep you on your toes.

We're busy with our three children. Caroline is a terrific tennis player. She is #1 singles on her 3rd grade team and we couldn't be prouder. Collin is also a really great tennis player, just loves it. He's not on a team right now as he's only in 1st grade. He also enjoys baseball with his younger brother Sam. Sam looks exactly like Sandy. Collin and Sam are our Irish twins, just 10-1/2 months apart. They share a bedroom and bunkbeds and are generally inseparable.

I keep up with a few high school classmates. We generally travel up to Springville once a year and visit family. I remember one trip when my kids were pretty young. I took them up to the playground at the Elementary school. Summer school was in session and the kids came out for recess with their teacher and it was none other than Betsy Skelton. We recognized each other and had a nice visit.

Took up running about three years ago to deflate the spare and have stuck with it. I need a purpose for my running or I tend to slack off. Charleston has one of the largest 10K runs in the country every Spring and the darn start line is about 2 miles from my house, so I signed up and ran my first 10K in 2007 at the young age of 40. Tried to continue running through the Spring but slacked off. Threw caution to the wind and told Sandy I was going to run a marathon and signed up to run the Marine Corps Marathon in the Fall of '07. Fear is a great motivator and I got after it. Running is also a great time for reflection and I often found myself thinking of my new nephew August. He's my sister Janet's son and was born in Feb. '07 with multiple complications derived from a chromosomal deletion. His life has been a tough road and I found much motivation in his strong will. I decided to turn my marathon into a fundraiser for August. We had great support and I am proud of the nearly $13K raised. The marathon itself started out great, but it's all in the finish which I eventually did. I've since stayed motivated and ran another 10K and completed a half-marathon this past winter. The marathon flame is starting to flicker again, so who knows.

I almost forgot to mention our two dogs: Bailey our Chocolate Lab and Adirondack our Chesapeake Bay Retriever. They're both 10 yrs old. Big barkers and if you get too close they will lick you to death.

If anyone is ever traveling down to Charleston for vacation, please give me a shout. E:mail is davidfunk22@bellsouth.net. We'd love to see you.

20 year reunion, where were you?

Charleston and nobody came.
