"The death of a mother is the first sorrow wept without her."
Dawn Day Calabrese, 63, of Hurricane passed away after a long illness at Charleston Area Medical Center Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, with her family by her side.
Dawn began her journey through life as Dawn Day Knight on December 4, 1946, in St. Albans, as the daughter of the late Nola and John Knight.
Dawn graduated from St. Albans High School in 1964, where she was a member of the Delta Zeta Tau sorority. She was previously employed at The Property Centre Real Estate Company as office manager, where she worked with her husband, Tom, Reed & Reed, Columbia Gas and the Diamond Department Store. She also was a homeroom mom at St. Francis of Assisi School during her daughter's time there. Dawn touched the hearts and lives of the many whose paths she crossed with her exuberant cheery personality.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Nola Knight of St. Albans; her brother, Gene Knight of Troutville, Va.; her brother, Alfred "Buddy" Knight of Winfield; and her best friend and sister-in-law, Marie Knight of Hurricane.
She leaves memories of her to treasure with her husband of 44 years, Thomas E. Calabrese; her daughter and best friend, Melissa D. Calabrese-Milam and her husband Michael L. Milam; two granddaughters; and beloved nephew, John Charles Bush, all of Hurricane.
She leaves behind many relatives, loved ones, and friends.
Dawn was a very strong woman who showed her strength right until the end. She was loved so much and respected by her family and friends. She worked lovingly and tirelessly for her family and especially her granddaughters whom she loved more than life itself.
