Michael Stabile '66 - Class Of 1966

Michael “Mike” Lynn Stabile of Marquette, MI, passed away on the morning of Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at UP Health Systems Marquette, in the loving care of his wife following a battle with cancer and COPD.
Mike was born 10 June 1951 in Detroit, the son of Daniel Favazza and Delores Rea (Stabile). He was the eldest of 5 children. In his youth, he worked hard and was looked up to by many of his peers. When he was old enough, he enlisted in the military.
Mike was a retired veteran of the United States Air Force, serving as a dental hygiene technician, and later a dental supply technician. His first station during his military career was at K.I. Sawyer AFB, where he met and fell in love with Karen Buss. They married in 1974, and shortly after they received orders to Elmendorf AFB in Alaska for a couple of years. They then were reassigned out west to F.E. Warren AFB in Wyoming, before eventually returning to K.I. Sawyer. It was here that Mike and Karen built their home (in Gwinn), expanding the small ranch house into an amazing home. Mike served for 20 years, reaching the rank of Master Sergeant, before retiring in 1991.
During and after his military career, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and barbecues among friends. He also savored quiet nights with his wife at home by the fireplace watching a good movie. He was quick to offer his warm smile, and just as quick to let you know when you were doing something you probably shouldn’t be doing. He had a great sense of humor, but also a no-nonsense approach to handling problems.
He was ever-inspiring and a true role model to the kids whose lives he’d impacted. During visits, he’d teach them how to fish, how to mow the lawn, how to drive, how to remove tree stumps, how to safely use a bb gun, and many other great “life lessons” (you can see the trend … hard work was paid off with great rewards!). More important, he taught the boys how to be men, and the girls how to have independence. He made all of them better people.
Mike is survived by his wife, Karen; his brothers and sisters, Donna Rea (Tyler), Nicholas Stabile, Thomas Stabile, and Mary Stabile (Baggett); his step-sisters, Connie Silva (Springer) and Yolanda Silva (Peterson);his brothers-in-law, Rick Buss and Kevin Buss; his nieces and nephews, Daniel, Michael, Andrew, Deanne, Stephen, Andrea, Shelley, Travis, Matthew, Shoshana and Spencer and their families; two aunts, Joan Favazza and Louise Rea, and an uncle, Donald Rea; and many friends, family, and children who admire him and love him.
