Sr. Carol (Juhasz)

Sister Carol Juhasz, IHM, 62, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the IHM Health Care Center.

Sister Carol was one of four children of Stephen and Mary (Lear) Juhasz. She was born March 3, 1951 in Monroe, Mich., and given the name Carol Jean. Sister Carol attended Riverside Grade School and Monroe High School. She entered the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monroe in 1984.

Before entering the IHM community, Sister Carol worked at the ophthalmology office of Hanif Peracha, MD, in Monroe. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Marygrove College and a Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies from Loyola University, Chicago. While pursuing her degree at Marygrove College, Sister Carol was active as lector, eucharistic minister, participated in the Worship Commission and worked as a teacher’s aide at Our Lady of Loretto, Redford. Upon receiving her degree from Loyola, she began her ministry as pastoral associate, a ministry she truly loved and was very much loved by the faith communities in which she ministered. From 1995 to 1998 she served as pastoral associate and youth minister at Our Lady of the Woods, Woodhaven, Mich., often preparing instruction for the Stephen Ministers.

In 1998, Sister Carol began her ministry as family life minister at St. Joan of Arc, St. Clair Shores. She served in this ministry for over 15 years, being present to the parish community as a first teacher of faith for children, new members and those returning to the Church, and walking with many in times of hardship and death. She entered the IHM Health Care Center in November 2013, where she resided until her death.

Sister Carol is survived by her father, Stephen, sister Cheryl Tibai, brothers, Mark and John, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary, in 2006.
