Robert Masserang '56 - Class Of 1956

MASSERANG , Robert L.

Age 66 December 23, 2009

Beloved husband of Judy. Dear father of Michael (Karen) and Michelle Collins (Blake). Loving grandfather of Ashley, Kayla and Emma Rose. Brother of Carol Naglich (Joe), Mary Ellen Lock (Jerry), Donald Masserang and Nancy Donnelly (John). Also survived by thirteen nieces and nephews.

Mr. Masserang retired from the Macomb Intermediate School District in 2006 serving for forty-one years. He was a speech therapist then worked with autistic children, their parents and teachers. His work with special needs children gave him an amazing imagination and creative ability which he used when planning and throwing parties at his home.

Bob was a Mr. Fix-it, enjoyed swimming and carpentry. He played at golf and it was his inability to grasp a golf club that led to the diagnosis of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

He taught others by his words and example even after the ALS diagnosis. He had an amazing sense of humor that carried himself, family and caregivers through his illness. His family feels very blessed for having Bob in their lives. He touched every one.

I remember Bob well. He was such a great person - way back in grade school. I can still picture the boys that hung around together.

I think I saw him once at a class reunion several years ago (we should have another one). He was one of the good guys.
RIP
